I keep getting errors on certain websites: "your connection is not private", "NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID"

Your "security certificate" may need to be updated.

Note: the instructions are different if you are using Firefox.

  • Download the new certificate file by clicking on cert.cer in the attachments section of this page which looks like this:

  • this will either download a certificate "cert.cer" or will bring up a save box. Save the file and click on it to run it.
  • This will bring up a security warning. Click on open.
  • This will bring up the "certificate" dialog:

  • Click on Install Certificate
  • In the next screen leave current user selected and click next.
  • In the next screen select the option to "place all certificates in the following store" and then click on Browse.

  • In the next screen select: Trusted Root Certification Authorities and click OK

  • Click Next
  • Click Finish
  • You will see the below Security Warning:

  • Click on Yes.
  • It will confirm the successful import. Click OK
  • One more time Click on Install Certificate
  • In the next screen leave current user selected and click next.
  • In the next screen select the option to "place all certificates in the following store" and then click on Browse.
  • Select: Trusted Publishers and click OK
  • Click Finish
  • Click on OK
  • Click on OK
  • Log out or restart the machine and then log back in and test the website.
